PABC Fall 2010 Evening Lecture Series: Considerations for your Special Patients

Lecture Three: Great Expectations: The joys and challenges of treating the active and inactive boomer generation with Jane Calland & Dawn Siegel

Those born between 1946-1964 have expectations that would not be thought realistic 30 years ago. Jane and Dawn will look at changes that need to be considered, both “normal” age related, and potential secondary or pathological changes. They will discuss how these changes influence:

  1. A regular exercise schedule: i.e. a realistic weekly schedule for a “runner” or “tennis player”.
Examples will compare a 30 year old with a 50+ year old.
  2. Likelihood of injury
  3. Response to injury
  4. Return to activity

Presenters:
Jane Calland, DipPT, FCAMT and Dawn Siegel, BScPT, RCAMT

Jane is an associate at Hollyburn Physiotherapy in West Vancouver and both instructs and assists in post-graduate manual therapy for the Orthopaedic Division of Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She is also a sessional assistant in the UBC Physiotherapy Program. Jane’s special interests include the treatment of acute or chronic back injuries and the prevention/treatment of sports injuries.
